Shirley runner-up in Sooner State Showdown opener at Arrowhead Speedway

Checking in a day early for the World of Outlaws Real American Beer Late Model Series weekend, Brian Shirley was one of 39 Comp Cams Super Dirt Series entries at Arrowhead Speedway (Colcord, Okla.) on Thursday afternoon.

Laying down the quickest lap in his qualifying group, Shirley raced to a heat one victory which put him on the pole for the $10,000-to-win weekend opener. Brian led early in the going, but ultimately faded and rounded out the Top-5 in fifth.

Racing for points on Friday and Saturday, Shirley once again won his heat race before he redrew the pole for the $12,000-to-win feature. Leading the first 32 circuits, Shirley tried to hold off Bobby Pierce, but ultimately settled for a runner-up outing while Tim McCreadie completed the podium.

Brian raced to another heat race victory on Saturday and was slated to start third in the $20,000-to-win finale after the redraw. Shirley closed out the weekend by finishing one spot off the podium in fourth.

Shirley is currently seventh in the series point standings.
