Shirley collects pair of podium finishes with World of Outlaws at Spoon River and Maquoketa

Starting off a four-day swing with the national tour, Brian Shirley was one of 31 World of Outlaws Real American Beer Late Models at Highland (Ill.) Speedway for the $12,000-to-win Beat the Heat 40.

Finishing 14th in the opener, Shirley focused his attention on Thursday's show at Spoon River Speedway (Canton, Ill.) where he rounded out the podium. Brian won a heat race and started on the second-row of the $12,000-to-win feature where he raced to a third-place finish behind Bobby Pierce and Jason Feger.

Losing Friday's opener at Maquekota (Iowa) Speedway to rain, Shirley locked in for the $20,000-to-win finale on Saturday. Brian started 12th in the 60-lap feature and made a late-race charge to the front. Shirley came up just short of stealing the win from Bobby Pierce and settled for runner-up while Nick Hoffman completed the Top-3.

Shirley remains seventh in the World of Outlaws point standings.
