Shirley runner-up with MARS Late Models at Fairbury Speedway

Sticking close to the shop over Memorial Day weekend, Brian Shirley rolled into Fairbury (Ill.) Speedway on Saturday afternoon for the $5,000-to-win FALS Triple Down Shootout.

With a huge 50-car field on hand for the event, Shirley laid down the second-fastest lap in his qualifying group and picked up a heat race win which put him on the third-row for the A-Main. Brian raced to the runner-up position and engaged in a wild battle for the lead but was interrupted by a late cuation. Shirley wound up settling for a second-place finish on the podium.

At Spoon River Speedway (Canton, Ill.) on Sunday night with the tour, Shirley led the opening lap of the $5,000-to-win show before a mechanical issue relegated him to a 22nd-place DNF.
