Shirley records strong Illinois Speedweek; podium outing at Lincoln Speedway
Brian Shirley and his Bob Cullen Racing team ventured out on Tuesday afternoon to kick off Illinois Speedweek at LaSalle (Ill.) Speedway with FloRacing Night in America.
With 49 Super Late Models signed in with the series, Shirley qualified third-fastest in his stacked group before he took a heat race victory. Starting fifth in the first $20,000-to-win show of the week, Brian raced to a Top-10 outing in sixth.
The following night, Shirley grabbed a heat one victory which placed him on the pole at Spoon River Speedway (Canton, Ill.) in the $20,000-to-win feature. Brian fell backwards in the 50-lap feature but rallied to finish inside the Top-5 in fourth.
Finishing up the three-day run with FloRacing on Thursday night, Shirley landed a podium finish at Lincoln (Il.) Speedway. Brian started eighth in the $20,000 A-Main and drove to a third-place finish behind Devin Moran and Ricky Thornton Jr.
With the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series sanctioning the weekend events, Shirley joined a 44-car field at Farmer City (Ill.) Raceway for the Farmer City 74. Starting on the front-row of the 74-lapper, Brian raced to his second fourth-place finish of the week.
The Bob Cullen Racing team ended the long week with a visit to Fairbury (Ill.) Speedway on Saturday where Shirley recorded an 18th-place finish.
