Shirley rebounds in Dairyland Showdown finale with fourth-place finish
Losing Thursday's opener to lingering rain showers, Brian Shirley unloaded his Bob Cullen Racing No. 3S machine at Mississippi Thunder Speedway (Fountain City, Wis.) for the now two-day Dairyland Showdown.
Among a strong 44-car field, Shirley qualified second-fastest in his group and picked up a heat race win. Redrawing the outside pole for the $25,000-to-win event, Brian ran inside the Top-5 before an engine failure resulted in a 24th-place DNF.
Shirley rebounded on Saturday evening as he once again qualified second-quickest in his qualifying group before he took another heat race victory. Brian redrew the pole position for the $30,000-to-win main event and wound up with a Top-5 finish in fourth. He trailed Nick Hoffman, Bobby Pierce, and Brandon Overton while Tim McCreadie completed the Top-5.
Shirley is currently eighth in the series point standings.
